According to both me AND Adrian Carmack (who did the art) NO. Here's why. The art is based on the first image below - from my book Petersen's Field Guide to Monsters. I gave a copy to Adrian. He liked it so much he based the Quake Shambler on it. I think he was smart to remove the eyes and make the mouth bigger. But you can see it has loose wrinkly skin, not fur.
Also the lightning attack was added by John Carmack and I love it. You?
