⚠️THE FOURTH EGG THEORY⚠️ When Princess Rhaena Targaryen was sent to Pentos during the dance, she took four dragon eggs with her. However, by the time of Daenerys Targaryen, only three eggs,the ones gifted to her by Illyrio Mopatis, were accounted for. So what happened to the fourth egg? Well there is no confirmed canon answer, but there are several theories. It hatched long ago. One possibility is that the fourth egg eventually hatched, but the dragon died or disappeared. Dragon hatchlings were fragile, and not all survived to adulthood. It was lost, stolen, or sold. Over nearly 170 years, the egg could have changed hands, been hidden, or disappeared. Dragon eggs were incredibly valuable and often became political bargaining chips. It is still somewhere in Essos. Some fans believe the egg remains hidden in Pentos or elsewhere in the Free Cities, waiting to be rediscovered in a future story. There are many mysteries unresolved in the book. It’s worth noting that the three eggs Daenerys received are not explicitly confirmed to be the exact same three eggs Rhaena took to Pentos, although that is a widely accepted theory. Their history before Illyrio acquired them is deliberately vague.
