@DarlingReaders Currently reading Babel and it does a remarkable job at putting you in the shoes of someone who's born on the outside (Chinese and taken by the empire of gb) and though is given everything, remains on the outside and slowly sees the injustices he's hidden from.

People adore this book, and I'm so glad that they've taken away something special from it
The initial writing and blossoming love I really enjoyed, but then it just became too 🚩and I couldn't get past those red flags being so quickly overlooked

My #yearinreview 2023.
Ranked left to right. A mixture of fiction and non fiction, fantasy and drama. A good year for books! (I know most didn't actually come out this year! 😅😅)

Made it beyond my reading target for the first time in ages.
Honestly, think I may make a list ranking books as some books haven't got their recognition simply because of when they were read
Empire of the Vampire by @misterkristoff is a worthy winner though!

Heir of Fire
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The way this series is developing from just a singular location & a fight to the death competition in book 1 to the sweeping locations, worlds & breadth of characters that are so carefully sprinkled in with such intricate backgrounds are just 🤌

Just a quick review whilst rounding out the year.
Solid, well written, and very enjoyable read. Glad to have the return of some of the OG characters from the first series!
