Perspective: along with several colleagues and wonderful collaborators, we submitted a 15 page proposal (plus many other supporting docs) to the NSF. The purpose? To buy a single crystal xray diffractometer, the first one we’d ever have on our campus - many R1s have several (1/n)

Several interesting comments about how the endowment is used for chaired positions… both my PhD and postdoc advisors held endowed chairs, the funds generated came as research money. Many comments say endowed funds used to supplement faculty salary - is this a med school thing?

Today I learned about endowed chairs! A philanthropic gift is given to a hospital/university (usually millions). The money goes into the endowment which generates interest. Whoever holds the endowed chair position gets a percentage of the interest (forever)! #firstgen

One early morning, I let my dog Tony out for a bathroom break, and then this happened... A koala lives in my yard. It is about four months old and has recently started living independently, but it is still not used to being away from its mother’s pouch or back. ✨ My dog Tony is extremely friendly and tolerant. I’m sure he won’t hurt the baby koala, and the baby will hop off his back by itself. I filmed this because it is really fun and unusual. I’m sure the cuteness of the two will bring most people joy and pleasure! Thanks! 💗

@Engr_Series Listen, I get it… I’d be incredibly frustrated if this happened to a player on my team too! But for all the Madrid fans complaining, the second goal came from an absolutely terrible dive for a free kick that the ref awarded. also not certain the 3rd goal should have stood 1/2

@RBerestka @dieworkwear I think a better (if not perfect) word you might want to use would be disingenuous. It’s disingenuous to say the Pope is the authority on catholic theology when his position aligns with one’s own, but then to disregard that authority when it conflicts.
