On April 15, 2024, Emme Desimoni, whose life was full of promise and potential, made the fateful decision to drive after consuming alcohol. This choice led to a collision that ended her life. At 3 AM that morning my wife and I received a phone call saying that our daughter had been in a terrible accident, and we needed to get to Chandler Arizona at once. We embarked on a six-hour car ride to the hospital, and during that drive we received a call from the Dr. to pull over to discuss our daughter’s status. On the side of the 10-freeway we were told that our daughter was cut out of the vehicle which took approximately thirty minutes with little medical attention. He informed us that nothing could be done to save her life. The horrendous scream of my wife that morning still lingers in my mind to this day. Once we arrived at the hospital the impact of our daughter’s condition became real. We walked in the ICU only to hear my wife scream out NO EMME NO not my EMME. Our daughter Laying in a bed on life support. Her head had been stapled shut from the front of her head all the way to the back. Her right eye swollen so bad that it was bulging out of her. Her wrist and Knee and C2 and C4 vertebra were broke. She laid there lifelessly only a ventilator keeping her alive. The only decision now was up to us. WHEN? As we spoke to her and told her we loved her and held our daughter for the last few hours of her life, The police showed up to discuss the case. Our daughter’s Blood Alcohol Level was a .16 twice the legal limit. We were told she was traveling east on the 10-freeway off-ramp and ran a red light at 68 MPH. She had slammed into the trailer of a semi and was trapped under the trailer. EMS was called, and it took approximately thirty minutes for her to be removed from the car. She was then transported to Chandler Trama Center and now on life support. As we discussed when we would allow our daughter to be taken off the life support, my wife asked for warm water and some towels. In the last moments of our daughter’s. Life, I watched my wife clean our daughter’s hair with soap and water picking glass and washing dried blood from her lifeless body. Knowing that this would be the last time she would do anything for our daughter. As I walked out of the room in shock the entire nursing staff was in tears seeing this heart-felt moment between a mother and her daughter. At approximately 2:03 PM we decided it was time and the tube for the ventilator was removed with shock and we noticed that all her teeth were busted out. It took about 90 seconds for our daughter to pass. On April 15th, 2024, at 2:05 PM Emme Desimoni was pronounced dead. She then became a statistic every 15 minutes, which is why we are here today someone in the US dies in an alcohol related crash every 15 minutes. The Aftermath: The aftermath of such an event is multi-layered, affecting the immediate family, friends, and the broader community in profound ways: For myself, the loss of a child is an unimaginable grief, compounded by the circumstances surrounding her death. The guilt and questions about what could have been done differently haunt me, as shared by many who have experienced similar tragedies. As her dad, I will never escort her down the aisle to give her away to her husband. As her dad I will never have a daddy daughter dance on the day of her wedding. I will never see her become a mother, I will never speak to her on the phone or see her fall in love. My wife will not be there to help her get ready for her special day. Emme’s death no longer affects her it affects everyone she touched in her life. Her parents, Grandparents, siblings, and friends
