Herriman Apt Fire info: began around 12:45 pm, 7 story facility under construction. Unoccupied, workers called in smoke and fire on a lower level. Spread to multiple units. Cause unknown, no injuries. Crews continue to work on full extinguishment. (Cont)

Yesterday at 3:00 PM, UFA and WVC fire crews were dispatched to a house fire in Kearns. They faced heavy smoke and fire, with 2 patients requiring medical care.

Critical efforts are taken to reduce these exposures and promote protections to reduce the risk of cancer. While January is Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month, we encourage all to take the necessary precautions in preventing and mitigating potential risks in our field.

Cancer remains the leading cause of line-of-duty deaths among firefighters. Firefighters are routinely exposed to diesel exhaust, smoke, and soot at fires that contain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). (Cont)
