Post-burn outcomes on Djiringanj Country 🔥 We observed an increase in groundcover species, greater signs of fauna activity & a diverse range of mushrooms. There is now a clear difference between the areas we prepared, the site we burnt, and the areas yet to be touched.

🤝🏾 International knowledge exchange reminds us that Indigenous knowledge is not confined by borders. Knowledge is carried by people, held in Country, and shared in heart — for the wellbeing of land, Culture and future generations.

The team at Minjehla Dhagun have been working hard on Country, bringing Cultural Fire back at a time when wildfires are appearing far earlier than they should. Getting good fire down is an important step in supporting the health of Country and reducing risk as the season shifts.

“Western fire management would look at the escarpment as one ridgeline and just burn it as one system. And we talk about the fear of fire — that gives me a fear of fire, knowing that someone would burn this in one system.” — Germaine Paulson, Firesticks Lead Fire Practitioner.

🔥 To close out 2025, Gadhu Bagan joined forces with Merrimans LALC Rangers, local community members, and children for a Cultural Burn at Wallaga Lake Koori Village. Together, we cared for Country, strengthened connections, and passed on vital knowledge to the next generation.

January 26 is not a day of celebration for us. But it is a day of: Survival, Mourning, Reflection and Strength. We're honouring the resilience, knowledge & authority of our peoples, who have survived, adapted & thrived despite invasion & who continue to care for Country today. 🌱

💔 Our hearts are heavy as we look across Victoria. Nearly 400,000 hectares of Country have been impacted by the recent bushfires. When Country burns like this, we don’t just see hectares lost. We feel it. 💔 Let's walk together in healing.

🌿 We're supporting Communities to come together on Country, learn and pass down knowledge through practice. Families attending workshops, children following Elders, communities gathering to share knowledge reinforce that this movement cannot happen without people.
