FIRST ISSUE of the Day: Czechoslovakia Sc 1/ SG 4 issued October 1918. Previously part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire, the Czechs of Bohemia and Moravia and the Slovaks of northern Hungary on October 28, 1918, issued a declaration of independence. #philately

FIRST ISSUE of the Day: Cyrenaica Sc 1/SG 1 issued in 1923 as the Italians wrested control of the region now called Libya from the Turkish empire. #philately

FIRST ISSUE of the Day: Cyprus (Independence) Sc 183/ SG 188 issued in 1960. A legacy of British colonial rule is the use of pillar boxes (mailboxes) with the initials of the British monarch, although after independence they were painted yellow. #philately

FIRST ISSUE of the Day: Cyprus Sc/SG #1 issued 1st April 1880. The British took over the island in 1878. Under the British High Commissioner and Governor of Cyprus, Sir Garnet Wolseley, a British-style postal service was established. #philately

FIRST ISSUE of the Day: Curaçao Sc 1 SG306 issued in 2010 with the end of the Netherlands Antilles that resulted in 3 nations: Curaçao, Caribbean Netherlands, and St. Martin. Gibbons continued Netherlands Antilles numbering. #philately

FIRST ISSUE of the Day: Cundinamarca SG1 Sc1 was issued 1870. One of three Colombian provinces that issued stamps. #philately

FIRST ISSUE of the Day: Cuba SG353 Sc-C1 issued 1927. Cuba's first airmail pictured a seaplane over Havana Harbour. It was issued under the Republic. #philately

FIRST ISSUE of the Day: Cuba (Independent Republic) Sc232 SG306 issue 1902. Cuba had 3 major change of administration issues: an 1898 overprint for U.S. administration; an 1899 issue under U.S. military rule; and the first issue of the Republic, a 1902 overprint. #philately

FIRST ISSUE of the Day: Cuba (US Administration) Sc 176 SG 203 issue 1898. Overprints on Spanish stamps during the Spanish-American War. #philately

FIRST ISSUE of the Day: Cuba Sc 1/ SG 1 issued April 24, 1855. Cuba was a Spanish possession when its first stamp was issued. The country made several attempts to gain independence and in 1898 the U.S. intervened and a Republic was established in 1902. #philately

FIRST ISSUE of the Day: Yugoslavia - Croatia Sc-2L1 SG53 issued 1918. From 1918 to 1920, separate issues were made for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia. The first general issue for Yugoslavia was made in 1921. #philately

FIRST ISSUE of the Day: Croatia Sc #100 issued November 21, 1991. The 1991 reboot of Croatia after Yugoslavia was dismantled. #philately

FIRST ISSUE of the Day: Croatia Sc 1-8 issued April 12, 1941. A WW II puppet state of Germany/Italy. The area was given back to Yugoslavia after the war. #philately

FIRST ISSUE of the Day: Offices in Crete - Austria Sc 1/F1 issued in 1903. These were surcharged in French denomination and also used throughout the Turkish Empire. #philately

FIRST ISSUE of the Day: Crete - Russian - Admin, Rethymon Province Sc 10/SG R1 issued 1899. Russia stationed troops in Crete following the Crete rebellion against Turkey. #philately

FIRST ISSUE of the Day: Crete - Provisional Government Sc 50/SG #1 issued in 1900. The provisional government of Crete issued a set of four stamps (Sc50-53, SG1-4). In 1908 the Cretan parliament announced union with Greece and in 1913 it became a Greek province. #philately

FIRST ISSUE of the Day: Costa Rica Sc/SG #1 issued March 1863. Costa Rica was part of the First Mexico Empire and later the Republic of Central before declaring its independence in 1847. #philately

FIRST ISSUE of the Day: Argentina - Corrientes Sc 1/ SG-P56 issued 21st August 1856. An Argentinian province that issued stamps before the Argentinian Confederation itself. #philatelty

FIRST ISSUE of the Day: Corfu Sc N1-14/SG 1-14 issued September 20, 1923. Following the murder of an Italian official on the Greek island of Corfu, Italian troops occupied the island in 1923. The League of Nations settled the incident. #philately

FIRST ISSUE of the Day: Cook Islands Sc/SG #1 issued April 19, 1892. Printed by the New Zealand Government Printer. From 1919 until 1935, stamps were issued in the name of Rarotonga, first NZ overprints and then inscribed stamps. #philately
