It’s not an aarti ritual. They’re bringing in the mehndi that is brought in with diyas. Maayoon, mehndi, dholak, ghori charhna, ubtan/haldi/mehndi lagaana, vail dena, and a lot else are all part of our syncretic culture. 60% of Pakistan is Punjabi. These are Punjabi traditions. There’s zero ‘identity crisis’ around them for most people.

You can't compete against a race of people that number nearly 2 billion, have a stratified class system that's existed for centuries and which they used to justify a slave system in their homeland. They literally organise themselves into hierarchical classes and allow the ones above to subjugate the ones below. It allows them to accumulate huge amounts of wealth which they then use to colonise the world. We can't compete with that. A nation of 4.5 million native Irish people, should not have to compete against a nation of 2 billion people, in their own homeland, which brings generational wealth from centuries of legalised slavery Which they call a Caste System.

Haapus (marathi name for this alfonso) is a class in itself. The aroma and taste of a good organically grown haapus is very wholesome. Nothing comes close. Saying this as proud owner of 150 haapus trees ❤️. Also the market for Haapus is very well matured. Good returns. Paayri variety comes close second. Fun fact - as told to me by @BharGo8 bhau - Paayri is Marathi version of Pereira - the Portuguese botanist who created this variety.

@anshulbhide @aparanjape Its heart-warming to see the success og Punekars have gotten in setting up world class tech firms (KPIT, Calsoft, Persistent and many). Somehow no other region in MH saw this success (even in non tech) including Mumbai.

Here's my Ravi Pandit story - My mother did her articleship under him at his CA firm decades ago. She moved to the US but then returned in 1997 to set up Calsoft, an IT services company. He was a source of advice for my parents at their fledging startup, especially since by then KPIT had already gone public. When I was doing my MBA at MIT Sloan, I reached out to him about moving back to India. I was planning to move back from the US to India, but was apprehensive about moving to Pune and joining an old-school family business (DEMECH) while seeing so many of my MBA compatriots take up hot tech jobs in the US. Mr. Ravi Pandit told me about his journey moving back after MIT Sloan to join his father's CA firm way back in the 70s. He leveraged the relationships at the CA firm to build an IT services behemoth, while steering it through several avatars; including the final one focused on world-class technology engineering work for automobile OEMs. Mr. Ravi Pandit showed me what an old-school family business in Pune could aspire to become. What an understated humble giant of Pune industry. The world has lost him too soon. RIP Mr. Ravi Pandit.
Amit Paranjape@aparanjape

An icon of Pune industry, Ravi Pandit passed away earlier today in Pune. A huge loss for Pune and the Indian Industry. A visionary, a mentor, a great leader. Always softspoken, helpful, humble and ready to guide so many of us. Along with being the chairman of @KPIT, Ravi Pandit was actively involved with institutions like @PuneIntCentre, @MCCIA_Pune and many more. Om Shanti 🙏

Zia did not display any personal hatred for Hindus. Bhutto did. It’s all about their personalities. And paradoxically unrootedness in something culturally deeper usually engenders greater India hatred. Like you say, ‘liberals’ are the worst. And Zia invited his St. Stephen’s teacher to Pakistan and treated him like a royal. Of course there’s also Shatrugan Sinha.

Imagine the level of intellect that puts ZA Bhutto and Ghalib in the same category. And in the first column instead of Zia that should have been the Pakistani Constitution or the Objectives Resolution. This whole chart is crazy, really. Ayub Khan, the military dictator, who is probably there for passing the ‘progressive’ Muslim Family Laws Ordinance (put a mild restriction on polygamy {you need the permission of the first wife to marry a second time}), which didn’t even come close to Turkey’s separation of state and religion from 30 years prior under which polygamy was prohibited. And certainly nothing close to the Hindu Code Bills passed in India that modernised Hinduism by allowing divorce, giving daughters equal inheritance, providing a secular form of law to Hindus that allowed them to marry outside the faith, and this is all on top of the 1950 constitution that had abolished caste hierarchy. Imagine this guy being some kind of top Pakistani academic with this kind of superficial understanding of what constitutes a progressive Muslim in the subcontinent.
Zubair Faisal Abbasi@zubairabbasi

Those who want to use an intellectual lens to understand the diversity of traditionalist, modern, and liberal thought in South Asian Muslim societies, a good genealogy is given by Akbar S. Ahmed. These categories are not etched on stone, but give a basis for broad generalisation about streams of thought processes #JinnahKaPakistan Vs. #TalibanKaPakistan

@MulaMutha @aparanjape Sir serious question, why were Solapur, Nagar etc allowed to be under Nizam while marathas were capturing far off lands? Why didn't they take over these nearby cities?

A British era map from the mid eighteenth century… Note the separate territories marked by the British for the Maratha Empire. It extends upto Udaipur, Jodhpur & Jaipur, from the Arabian sea to the Bay of Bengal. 8 May 1758 was the day (268 yrs ago) when the Marathas took Peshawar.

As a Hindu - this is awesome. Some sociopolitical heavyweight must say this louder and clearer. In all parts of country. But as a CM, he will have to curtail these natural instincts significantly (else plenty of judicial activism). Silently Act, sure within the system. System rules can be bended to large extent when you have power. But speaking this openly as CM - he will only end up fighting countless court cases instead of focusing on governance.

Problem of working in Bengal is (feedback from a pracharak who worked there for decades) - loudmouth bhodrolok people shout philosophical stuff so loudly and eloquently on all platforms that genuine concerns of ordinary Bengali hindus which need immediate redressal gets masked. Its noise. Anyone who is not a Bengali but wishes to work in Bengal must learn to filter out bhodrolok noise (unless they are your target audience - life is fun in that case 😂) and focus on real problems of real and normal Bengali people who really need help to live a good life at par with rest of India.

Do you want to know where this cope comes from? In 2014, when Devendra Fadnavis first became MH-CM, there was a popular joke circulating on Marathi social media then. “एकदाचा महाराष्ट्राला ण ला ण म्हणणारा मुख्यमंत्री मिळाला” The loose translation of that joke is thus - “Finally we have a CM who can pronounce ण (Ṇ) as ण and not न (n)”. 😁 I would bet my money that the author of this trash must be some Marathi progressive libtard. The joke triggered (as was intended) many a libtard Musharrafs in Mumbai-Pune circle then.
