The Fishmongers' Company is one of the Twelve Great Livery Companies of the City of London, and among the most ancient of the City Guilds.

It's Wild Salmon Day – a chance to celebrate a fish that sustains whole ecosystems and human communities, but is now classed as endangered. Scotland once welcomed huge runs of Atlantic salmon, returning from the sea to rivers that ran cool beneath corridors of alder, willow and aspen. Salmon rely on cold, clean water to survive. But today, many of Scotland's rivers are heating up, as they flow through bare, treeless landscapes, exposed to rising summer heat. ❌ No trees means no shade. ❌ No shade means warmer water. ❌ Warmer water means fewer salmon. 🌱 But there’s still hope. By restoring 'Riverwoods' – vibrant corridors of native trees along Scotland’s exposed rivers – we can give salmon shade, shelter and cooler water. We can give them a fighting chance. Funding from the Company's Fisheries Charitable Trust is supporting Hans Unkles, skipper of the UK's first electric fishing vessel, to tour UK fishing ports to share his experiences with working fishermen around the country. fishmongers.org.uk/electric-fishi…
