We just came across a de-sawed Freshwater Sawfish in the Fitzroy River, Western Australia. The fish was skinny as a result, and is likely to starve in time. Not only cruel, it is an offence to take the saw. tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.108…

Just received proofs for new book "Biology of Sharks & Their Relatives, Ed. 3" and am overwhelmed. Printed in full color (794 pages). The graphs, tables, figures, and photographs are incredibly well rendered. Due out in April or so. @SharkColin @MikeHeithaus @ProfSharkBrain

I am excited to share a new study led by Shachar Givon & @MatanSamina w/ Ohad Ben Shahar: Goldfish can learn to navigate a small robotic vehicle on land. We trained goldfish to drive a wheeled platform that reacts to the fish’s movement (authors.elsevier.com/a/1eEnubrwfBCwg).

@Jon_W_Moore @SeanNaman @greig_oldford ...with the exception of hibernation. So guess we are just thinking of an acute alteration in foraging patterns. Not aware of any work looking into this specifically in endotherms, but super interesting thread going here!

Our new paper, led by @lauraryansci, shows the poor acuity of juvenile white #sharks means there is little visual distinction between seals & humans, supporting the theory that mistaken identity results in some shark bites royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs…
