1) they conflate Nietzschean philosophy with the much older vitalist thought-- and while Nietzsche is antithetical to orthodoxy, vitalism is ambivalent.

As far as I have ever been able to tell, the CORE items of the cowboy arose in Mexico, not Spain. Meaning the horned saddle and the thrown rope. Spain and the American South East did of course have equestrian and cattle raising cultures, but no Cowboys per se.
