Funny how ‘budget cuts’ almost always seem to lead to larger class sizes instead of fewer non-teaching positions. What’s the most wasteful spending in your school/district?

For teachers, the most important thing not to be afraid of is failure. Try a new lesson Call the parent Teach differently Hold students accountable Advocate for the students who want to learn Some of the best teachers fail constantly. They just refuse to stop trying to improve.

Students used to at least escape bullying when they went home. Now it follows them 24/7: • Group chats • Snapchat • TikTok • Anonymous accounts • Public humiliation videos Many schools act like bullying today is the same as it was 20 years ago. It’s not even close.

If a student is failing, has 25 absences and 58 tardies, and the administrator’s first question is, “What could the teacher be doing differently?” then we’re asking the wrong questions.

“Teen takeovers” have now been reported in cities like Milwaukee, Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, & Orlando. Shoplifting, assaults, robberies, & property damage. These same teens are sitting in middle and high school classrooms behaving awfully, & receive little to no consequences.

Teachers…if we’re not at the table, we’re on the menu. Having a seat at the table isn’t just about contract negotiations. It’s about discipline policies, grading expectations, curriculum changes, classroom sizes, attendance policies, technology decisions, and countless other choices that directly impact teachers and students every day. When teachers have no voice in those decisions, they’re often the ones forced to deal with the consequences afterward.

Do you know who dislikes the lack of accountability for misbehaved students in schools even more than teachers? The good kids who actually want to learn. They’re often the ones being silently bullied, distracted, intimidated, or forced to sit in chaos every day while administrators let it continue. When a severely misbehaved student is suspended, it’s often a relief for the students trying to do the right thing, too.

Yesterday, a student noticed he had a 38.7% in my class. He looked shocked. I asked if he had just now checked his grade, since it hadn’t changed much in over a month. He told me he thought he had a B. The student has been absent 50+ times this school year.

In my teaching experience… Teachers who never question administrators’ decisions often get labeled as “good teachers.” Teachers who do ask questions often get labeled as “difficult.” Have you seen this too?

It’s Simple… Phones don’t belong in classrooms or hallways. 𝐊𝐢𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧’𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. Some adults aren’t either. Phones distract, disrupt, and undermine learning.
