@Fl0atingSign Chicago is pretty balls the entire way through and Cabaret’s second act has Sally singing CABARET (maybe my fave show tune ever) followed by one hell of an outro.

Is there a single musical that has a better second act than first? Plenty of albums have a better side B (Purple Rain for example), but I can think of ZERO musicals that don’t blow their wad in the first hour.

The ultimate luxury a writer has now is the ability to disappear. Guys like Ben Lerner and Chad Harbach really figured it out. Atticus Lish. Emma Cline, too. No commentary on social media or begging. Nothing. They just put out a book or a piece and disappear again. Maybe show up in a photoshoot for a magazine. That’s how you know you’ve really made it. Good for them.

With stand up comedy becoming the standard representation of humor people have largely forgotten that having a sense of humor is more about laughing at things, especially yourself, and less about making other’s laugh.

When I was a kid, the legality of Weird Al's song parodies became a sort of symbol of the kind of beautiful pranksterism that the First Amendment allowed. It made me proud of the country. So it was kind of funny to learn later as an adult that he actually just got permission from the rights holders for every single song in advance.

@ptichushka I managed to deal with the dryness (bloody noses and chapped lips) but after a few months I started getting stomach pain and had to quit.
