Private Sector Reports Corruption Driving Costs Up 20%, FTI Poll Finds Corruption in Thailand’s business sector is worsening, with more than 55% of companies reporting that graft adds over 20% to operational costs, according to the 49th FTI CEO Poll by the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI). The survey, conducted among 645 executives across 48 industries and 76 provincial councils, found that 85.7% of respondents believe corruption is more severe than in the past. The main causes cited were patronage culture and conflicts of interest (70.9%), weak legal enforcement (57.2%), and high discretionary power of officials (53%). Procurement corruption, including bid-rigging, was the most frequently reported form at 81.4%, followed by bribery (72.6%) and policy-level favoritism (69.8%). Respondents recommended urgent government action, including legal reform and stricter enforcement (64.5%), digital government initiatives and open data (60.2%), and enhanced public-private participation with whistleblower protection (55.5%). FTI emphasized that systematic, sustained measures are needed to restore business confidence, improve competitiveness, and promote a transparent, sustainable economy. #Thailand #Corruption #คอร์รัปชัน

@phnompenhpost Exactly what Cambodia does : Weak from 40 yrs of 1-man rule, weak from deep seated corruption, weak from border conflict triggered by taped conversation with another Head of State, weak from industrial size scam centers....Change starts with oneself - not by pointing fingers !

I love working for the ABC. But my colleagues are struggling to continue that work, because jobs are insecure and unsustainable. We're striking today to call on ABC management to provide us with an EBA offer that provides quality jobs. @withMEAA #QualityNewsQualityJobs

Pro-democracy Activist Sentenced to 15 Years Over Lese-Majeste Facebook Posts Pro-democracy activist and political prisoner Kanruetai "Ai" Klai-on, 33, was sentenced to a combined 15 years in prison for violating Thailand’s lese-majeste law, Section 112 of the Criminal Code, and the Computer Crimes Act, after posting content on Facebook allegedly related to King Rama X. The ruling stems from two separate Facebook posts in July and September 2022. Kanruetai was originally charged in two counts; the court found her guilty and imposed three years’ imprisonment per count, totaling six years. Because she confessed, her sentence was halved under mitigating provisions, reducing it to 2 years and 6 months per count. The court ordered this sentence to run consecutively with her previous Section 112 conviction, bringing her total prison term to 15 years. The second Section 112 case was filed by Anon Klinkaew, a leader of the People’s Center to Protect the Royal Institution, an ultra-royalist protest group. Kanruetai initially denied the charges but changed her plea to guilty on February 12, 2026. The court also prohibited reporting of events inside the courtroom. Her first Section 112 conviction, related to eight Facebook posts and filed by the police, had already resulted in an 8-year sentence without bail. She has been in custody at the Central Women’s Correctional Institution for over 1 year and 7 months, and both sentences are now being served consecutively. #Thailand #ม112

[Op-Ed] As much as Thailand struggles to twist the narrative, the country cannot hold itself as a peacemaker to other countries in the region, like Myanmar, while its army occupies the territory of its neighbour in violation of international law and a mutually agreed upon ceasefire agreement. [Op-Ed] Thailand’s claim that the recent conflict originated in, or was precipitated by a motive of self-defence, falls apart when one considers that the Thai military currently occupies a dozen or more locations in Cambodian territory, in violation of international law and contrary to the ceasefire agreement.
