Trying to change careers at 27 has taught me that people truly don’t have the patience to train you, or the grace to give you time while you try to learn a new skill or break into a new industry. it feels like I'm already considered too old to start fresh.

@FlexAppeall That’s a bummer it’s like a trophy. I think mine were 50/50 we had a lot of professor who were dead set on physical books. My book shelf is covered in 1950s machining books and other books things I can find.

@CalumDouglas1 I’m getting into consulting work for designing compliant mechanism, MEMS, soft robotics, do you have any advice on how to grow your client base?

I should probably post this more often, but to any persons of interest, I do actually specialise in mechanical design of state of the art high performance engines. If you`re fed up with some hopeless boat-anchor you`re being charged a fortune for... Do call me up, its literally what I do, the lot, cranks, cam dynamics & profile design, bearing design, gear tribology and oil sustems, torsional vibrations, cylinder heads, water jackets, ports... Various people and firms up to and including Ferrari have asked me to look into various things for them... the fact I`m a historian was totally accidental,🤣and only happened because it turned out that WW2 books about engines not written by engine designers were a bit "meh".

when I look at my old simulations, a lot of them, most of them, can be easily vibe setup with agents, or even one shot by the agents. it makes me wonder how many of the ideas and devices that were results of branching off of originally intended directions and goals would I miss if I attempt them now with the agents? How many new ones would the agents be able to attempt and identify? Is inverse design just the most stupid and bruteforce version of auto research? i should get a workflow with MOOSE working so I could set the agents free in the world of multiphysics simulations.

Playing around with Signed Distance Fields (SDF) and I'm honestly really hedging my bets this becomes the dominant geometry representation in the next decade. Open source is moving, 3rd party tooling will follow

i made a sunset predictor for NYC & SF and a live sky you can check anytime it uses real weather data to recreate the sky. gradients evolve, clouds drift, wind blows, stars appear if you're lucky. adding sunshine and rain soon ⛅️

Does it have to be metal? Can you make it out of SLA printed resin? Questions I ask myself while waiting for training runs at 10:30pm Are there ceramic resins out there? Surely someone has figured out the chemistry

We are also releasing self-contained lecture notes that explain flow matching and diffusion models from scratch. This goes from "zero" to the state-of-the-art in modern Generative AI. 📖 Read the notes here: arxiv.org/abs/2506.02070 Joint work with @EErives40101.

🚀MIT Flow Matching and Diffusion Lecture 2026 Released (diffusion.csail.mit.edu)! We just released our new MIT 2026 course on flow matching and diffusion models! We teach the full stack of modern AI image, video, protein generators - theory and practice. We include: 📺 Videos: Step-by-step derivations. 📝 Notes: Mathematically self-contained lecture notes 💻 Coding: Hands-on exercises for every component We fully improved last years’ iteration and added new topics: latent spaces, diffusion transformers, building language models with discrete diffusion models. Everything is available here: diffusion.csail.mit.edu A huge thanks to Tommi Jaakkola for his support in making this class possible and Ashay Athalye (MIT SOUL) for the incredible production! Was fun to do this with @RShprints! #MachineLearning #GenerativeAI #MIT #DiffusionModels #AI
