In my opinion, more than 75% of every urban planning, architecture, and landscape architecture program today should focus on “SPRAWL REPAIR”. The work is endless. And virtually nobody is teaching it.

Just imagine when major bike lanes are removed, and all these cyclists begin using traffic lanes—as they are fully entitled to do under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act. Dare I say...this will cause traffic congestion on a whole new level. The Province hasn't thought this through.
Chris Kemp (cbkemp.bsky.social)@mindoverdata

A huge and passionate crowd gathered at Queen's Park to let @fordnation know that bicycle infrastructure saves lives and is a key part of *actually* addressing traffic congestion. More people biking = less people driving. #BikeTO #TOpoli #ONpoli

We are bringing sanity back to bike lane decisions. By removing and replacing existing bike lanes on primary roads, we will get drivers moving again.

They claimed traffic congestion was caused by trains, street cars, wide sidewalks, urban neighborhoods... So we destroyed all those things to "solve traffic", yet traffic is worse than ever. Now they're blaming bike lanes? It has always just been cars - cars cause congestion.

The Ontario government is shutting the Science Centre today citing an engineer’s report – which does *not* say the place must close or that all work is urgent. What a betrayal.

Science is not a belief system You cannot pick & choose which bits to believe & which to deny Science is rational/logical system based on collecting observations & evidence on which modern society is based So believe/deny whatever you want: Earth 🌍 is still getting hotter 🥵

The war on the bike is over in Toronto. Time to ramp up the war on the car to truly deliver on the liveable city promise: a simple 7 step plan.... 1. increase the price of parking to discourage driving 2. radically increase *frequency* of bus service 3. halt regional sprawl and new highways 4. fill in the urban fabric with missing middle housing 5. narrow Avenues + major streets with wide sidewalks 6. design housing around public spaces, not parking 7. allow small-scale retail on neighbourhood corners These seven steps alone could transform the city.

The year is 2026 - Toronto’s King Street has been transformed into a transit priority corridor. Streetcars flow rapidly, unimpeded by cars, and pedestrians have room to move about. Local shops and restaurants are full, and life is good. Let’s make this a reality. #topoli

@AlexanderGlista How about this as an example?

Car-dependent suburban sprawl is the most publicly expensive and publicly subsidized form of human habitation in human history. And that’s before you even start the math on the big picture costs & consequences. #SuburbanSprawl

Journalists get it. Ontarians get it, too. The GTHA already had far more LAND designated for homes and jobs than could be used. The push to carve Greenbelt & swallow up other Golden Horseshoe farmland & habitat beyond pre-2022 settlements was always based on a willful lie.

I won’t shut up about this despite what people may think of me, because the media is wrong: This IS an emergency. We aren’t being hysterical. As David Attenborough says, we are heading towards the collapse of civilisation. This is Greece, for fucks sake:

Not to be alarmist but…this is what’s called a six-sigma event, now unfolding in Antarctica. Otherwise known as a once-in-7.5-million-year event. Hang onto your hats. HT @EliotJacobson
