For thousands of years this permanent pasture has been ridge and furrow to aid drainage and has not been built on because it always floods. Work has now just started here on a huge new Didcot housing development and immediately it floods. Why as a country are we getting thicker?

@floodmary Just to point out that following severe flooding in Carlisle in 2005 the at-risk area had defences built to the 2005 flood standard of protection.
Storm Desmond in 2015 defeated those defences.
New homes built behind C:B justified defences are not 'safe'
