@washghost1 I would not buy a Samsung. Their phones are ok but everything else we’ve bought has died in a couple of years.
Our Kenmores have been ok and we’ll find out how long our new-ish GE washer will last.
@the_mick07@Grady_Mclaine@pmcafrica You are missing the point. No book time for 3 hours can be done in 6 minutes. Just not possible. Therein lies the problem. There is no universal standard for auto repairs. If someone is telling you 3 hrs for a 6 minute job they are lying to you. Simple as that!
@FloridaJ911@Grady_Mclaine@pmcafrica Wrong— they used a lift, pneumatic tools which cut the direct time down. Then U don’t account for sourcing the parts, ordering, & picking up. Finally, you never included any admin time of setting appointments, talking abt repairs w/ customer, dealing w/pay/accting.
@the_mick07@Grady_Mclaine@pmcafrica They are quoting you 3 hours and did in 6 minutes and there is no way it could have taken 3 hours even if you dug a hole to service the car. Gotta call BS on the book that gave them the time on a project that could be done that quickly, something is wrong with the software.
@FloridaJ911@Grady_Mclaine@pmcafrica I’m just saying if the repair is $500 and they repair it for $500– they’ve met the agreement. Time isn’t a factor unless I agreed to pay by the hour.
@Grady_Mclaine@the_mick07@pmcafrica The problem is there is no standard. It’s whatever software they are using. Gotta ask up front, get the time/cost, and get multiple quotes. Prices can and do vary considerably across different shops. If you have one you trust, stick with them.
@the_mick07@FloridaJ911@pmcafrica If mechanics are honest, they would tell customers it will take me 6 minutes to do the job but I'm gonna charge you 1000 dollars for those 6 minutes and they know the customer would tell them to pound sand so they use book time to lie to clients who don't know any better.
@centralstaking@pmcafrica They may tell you that but I’ve never experienced it even on luxury cars. In fact, I’ve never even heard of that. Not saying it’s not true but that’s strange if so.
@FloridaJ911@pmcafrica Ppl cant even change their batteries these days on their own if they got auto stop on their vehicle. You gotta plug a computer in and reset the battery or it'll be dead again within a month or 2. Cars are not user friendly anymore. Too many electrical sub systems.
@the_mick07@Grady_Mclaine@pmcafrica Most mechanics are W2 employees by the way. 1099 is the exception. Shops make out way better than the mechanics. Not a whole lot of wealthy mechanics but there are wealthy shop owners. Make sure to ask what software they are basing their repair, cost of job, & call around.
@FloridaJ911@Grady_Mclaine@pmcafrica No shit- they are selling their time for money. Otherwise they’d be 1099 and sell the company a specific repair on contract. The latter being unburdened by time unlike the W2 option. Just like the shop sells their repair to the customer.
@FloridaJ911@Grady_Mclaine@pmcafrica Terrible analogy. W2 Employees agree to trade their time for $. They are selling 8 hours a day to the employer not a specific result, since they have nothing else to offer (don’t bring clients, infrastructure, they add risk to business). That’s the agreement.
@the_mick07@Grady_Mclaine@pmcafrica A better analogy would be if you paid for an employee to work a full day and they only worked for an hour as they finished the one task you assigned them for the day. No, you would not be happy. Same here, paying too much for a quick and easy job. Book time is wrong, period.
@FloridaJ911@Grady_Mclaine@pmcafrica I get paid for a result and never for a hourly rate. Same as this situation. Do you request your steak cheaper at the steakhouse because you ordered it medium? The cook spends more time on the well done steaks.
@centralstaking@pmcafrica Cool story but I’ve been rebuilding engines and doing all my own work way before the internet was a thing and you would have to buy a mechanic’s book for the jobs.
@FloridaJ911@pmcafrica And our shop loved ppl like you thinking YouTube would help them out. Ppl literally would bring cars in motor half torn apart due to zero experience, or tools they didnt have to finish the job
@FloridaJ911@Grady_Mclaine@pmcafrica So you’d prefer he take the full 3 hours to fix it, make you wait around or get the same result in 1/4 of the time and be on your way? At the end of the day the result is the same- it’s just how inconvenienced you want to be.
@Oceanbreeze473 It can be extremely dangerous, deadly if not careful. Winding the coils or removing the one that is still on under spring pressure is when it’s dangerous. The job is not complex but can be taxing physically.
@FloridaJ911@pmcafrica Why would you take it to a mechanic if it only takes 6 minutes to fix? That would be like taking your vacuum cleaner to an appliance technician to have him empty the dust bin for you.
@nodaGROM@pmcafrica Any legitimate mechanic with even a hit of experience would know exactly what it is. I’ve been working on cars for over 40years. It’s become more difficult with all the electronics and emissions systems but it doesn’t take an MD so I’m not paying a mechanic MD rates.
@FloridaJ911@pmcafrica Diagnostic time , drive test , down time tying up the lift for part to arrive . Putting it on and off the lift 6 mins is not the time the tech was working on this vehicle . Also anyone worth anything will be inspecting the car for damaged components cause by the engine floping
@count_gema@pmcafrica It’s a shame you lack logic, reasoning, and education as the best you can do is call names. Tells me all I need to know about you.
@rjm120782@pmcafrica No, being ignorant hurts. Attorneys are required to give you an itemized receipt for hours spent. They can lose their law license if they bill you for hours they did not work.
@EnlightenStS@pmcafrica You do pay the attorney for the time spent on the case. They cannot work 6 minutes and bill you for 3 hours. If they do, they can lose their license. People saying things that have no clue what they are talking about.
@FloridaJ911@pmcafrica How long it it take to put the car up? How long for the diagnosis? How long to find the proper part in the warehouse? I don't pay the attorney for just the time his fingers hit the keycaps when typing a document...
