@CaraAndNBTF You are an amazing person!!!! You did so much for your parents, and I know they appreciated everything that you did for them. Making those decisions is very hard, but you got to enjoy them up until the end. That's wonderful! You are in the perfect occupation!

I think it is even more heart wrenching to make the decision you made and go down the palliative care route - not heart wrenching for Ratatouille.. but for you. I nursed both parents palliatively -they both had an express wish not to die in a hospice, and I was right behind them - I was an RN .. and trained in palliative as well as other fields .. and I find it an absolute honour for people to ask me to nurse them palliatively. Like birth, it is a once in a life-time occurrence that has never happened before for the patient this lifetime, nor has death. My mum was the first to leave us, her wish was simple - to be at home - and die in her sleep - with Dad next to her, holding her hand. Yes, through palliative radiotherapy she could eat a modified diet again and her breathing not so laboured, her palliative radiotherapy gave her back some quality in her life - she was an amazing woman .. but while she made it clear she still wanted and enjoyed a most of what was cooked and again could swallow without choking .. (would it help Ratatouille to try and thick pureed diet (it helped with her digestion and nausea - plus treating the nausea if it did happen - check with the vet for an opinion on that perhaps. Until her final week, she made it very clear she still had her sense of humour and wasn't finished playing. With RN knowledge and her fantastic GP and being part of a palliative team to bounce questions off (just as we used to at work), often asking even more senior RN's for advice etc. Pain was relieved as needed. Pain control was her main concern, as it was mine. Once it started not long before she died, we jumped on it very fast so that she did not suffer and it sounds like this is your approach too. While Ratatouille still enjoys eating, playing, cuddling - I so agree with you - let him. It is his choice after all but just watch for pain signals. Mum did get her wish re own bed and avoiding the hospice. If I had to, I'd do it all over again and grateful I could give her her final wish - as you are doing for Ratatouille. Sending love and thoughts to you. C and C xo

As you probably noticed, I've been very silent this week. Last Friday, we found out that our beautiful Ratatouille is dying from cancer. He has drastically lost weight, and he is throwing up a lot. They said that's because of where the cancer is. They wanted me to put him down. But, he is still eating, drinking, grooming, trying to play, and wants attention. So, I chose to watch him live! I am treating his nausea, giving him subcutaneous fluids, and watching for any signs of pain. He is about 13 and a very loving gentleman who taps me when he wants pets. Rescuing animals is wonderful, but watching things like this happen to them is heart-wrenching!

@MonicaPysher I'm so sorry about Calie. I know that this is so hard to get over!
English

@FlowerFancyPant I'm so sorry. You know what's best for Ratatouille and you. You know I just went through this with Calie, so I understand what it's like. I'll be praying for both of you.

Hello friends. I've been a bit quiet lately! I went in for a very simple thumb surgery and ended up with a permanently numb thumb. So, with this issue, and after having my second stroke a month or so ago, this really has put me in a state of depression! But I have all of my furbabies and all of you to put a smile back on my face! Thank you all for always being there for me!
