I’m launching Yojam (macOS only) today. It’s a free, open-source app that intercepts every link you click & routes it to the right browser, profile, or app - based on YOUR rules. No more "oh great, this AWS link opened in the wrong browser. Again." yoj.am /1

@DrNickA Remember when we mocked the Worldcoin dating video and people from Worldcoin assured us that it wasn’t a date in the video, and that would never happen?

A long time ago I worked on the intercept system that Vodacom uses (when Swisstech still existed), which included the ability to fully monitor all your Internet traffic. Vodacom is owned by Vodafone, which isn't South African. If you had any clue how pervasive the reach of South African ISPs and mobile operators are you'd be begging Starlink to operate here.

@cb_doge Somebody should tell Elon Musk and make it clear that we don't want Spylink here in South Africa

A lot of misinformation from legacy media about Starlink’s entry into South Africa. Here’s the truth 👇 • ❌ “Starlink wants to bypass B-BBEE” ✅ False — it supports transformation via EEIP, a legal framework already used by companies like Microsoft, IBM, and Amazon Web Services. • ❌ “Starlink is asking for special treatment” ✅ No — it’s asking for equal rules so ALL satellite operators can compete fairly. • ❌ “EEIP is less beneficial than equity deals” ✅ Reality — Starlink’s plan would connect 5,000 rural schools with FREE high-speed internet, impacting millions of students every year. • ❌ “It won’t create local impact” ✅ It will partner with local businesses, create jobs, and boost the economy (broadband growth = GDP growth). • ❌ “It will become a monopoly” ✅ Impossible — Starlink operates globally in a competitive market across 150+ countries. • ❌ “Security & privacy risks” ✅ It will fully comply with South African laws like every other country it operates in. • ❌ “Starlink is already operating illegally” ✅ Wrong — it is NOT operating because it is still waiting for a license.

It lives as a menu bar app. No dock icon, no cmd+tab clutter. Just a quiet icon with recent URLs (you can set an auto-delete period on these) & preferences. Source: github.com/fluffypony/yoj… BSD 3-Clause licensed. macOS 14+. Open links in whatever yo jam is. yoj.am /fin

tevador: The choice is between CSIDH-512 and CSIDH-1024. The table lists UX-related parameters. Would the cost of CSIDH-1024 be acceptable (regardless of security)? I'm looking for opinions: #appendix-d" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">gist.github.com/tevador/639d08…

Been with @Revolut for 2+ years on the Ultra plan (£500+/year). Today (Saturday), they flagged a crypto deposit for info due to their new banking license. I answered everything immediately, only to be told the relevant team doesn’t work weekends. They won’t review it or reverse the transaction until Monday. Why trigger a compliance check on a Saturday if you don’t have the staff to resolve it? Absolutely ridiculous "Ultra" service. 😡 Moving forward I will be informing our 300,000 Followers across Youtube and other social platforms to no longer deposit any #crypto / #Altcoins on your platform...

Happy Birthday, @Monero! 🖤 Back in 2014, Monero was born out of rebellion. When the crypto community discovered that Bytecoin had been unfairly pre‑mined, a new project emerged – one that promised fairness, privacy, and resilience. That project became Monero. Over the years, Monero’s journey has been full of battles and breakthroughs: 🛡️ The unclaimed bounty Governments tried to crack its privacy. The IRS even offered $625,000 to anyone who could deanonymize Monero. To this day, the bounty remains, but the privacy stays unbroken. ⚔️ The ASIC wars When mining giants introduced powerful ASIC miners to monopolize the network, Monero responded with a radical hard fork, making their hardware obsolete overnight to protect decentralization. 💻 Mining for the people With the RandomX algorithm, Monero remains one of the few major assets still mineable on regular CPUs. It belongs to everyday users, not just industrial server farms. Through all of this, one thing never changed – privacy is not optional in Monero. Respect for that consistency! 🤝 Stay private, stay resilient, and Happy 12th Birthday to the king of privacy! 🎂 Swap 5,000+ assets to $XMR anytime 👇 go.letsexchange.io/monero-turns-12

How accurate are wearables like Apple Watch, Whoop, and Oura? A researcher compiled 16 studies to find out, and the answer might shock you:

Yeah it’s insane - they were very proud, and rightfully so, it was the first time that genome sequencing dropped below $100k, and they had bulk pricing discounts too: emea.illumina.com/company/news-c… I think the ramp to $200 throwaway hardware for at-home sequencing is going to be another 5 years of development, especially with AI speeding up hardware and software development.

@svoppr Oh I know - compared to sending it to a lab which is like $200 it’s super expensive, but bear in mind that lab costs were almost exactly $20k in 2010, so that is a massive improvement.
