Just south of #Gloucester, we’ve uncovered remains of a #prehistoric watering hole – complete with this substantial wood lining, and likely frequented by both livestock and humans💧🪵🐑
Less than a metre down, we've got wattle walls, a 'corduroy' trackway of aligned planks, a wooden trough, and a ladder that might've given easier access to the waterhole's base. Usage dates to the Middle #BronzeAge (1500 BC – 1100 BC) and appears to've occurred across two distinct phases.
Much of the wood looks re-purposed from other structures, and shows evidence of wood splitting and tool markings. Study of the site is in progress! So watch this space for more details……👌
