When I was 17 in 1982 I had- -My driver's license -My own car that I bought myself for $400 -My own car insurance that I paid for -A part time job a mile from my house -A girlfriend -Two parents with a stay at home mom -Movie theaters with more first-run gems than you can now find in a decade of films -Access to theme parks that weren't overrun with scum -Lots of drinking buddies -Normal street fights that didn't risk death by pistol -Almost no sense or care of politics -Freedom of movement and disconnection when wanted (no cell phones) -Great music on the radio -Access to clubs thanks to my older brother's expired ID that I changed the exp date on. (paper license) -Etc. I could go on and on. It isn't just nostalgia. We have lost so much that it's heartbreaking. I have sincere sympathy for young men living in our current times.
