Apologies ahead of time for a bit of an audio difference you may notice halfway through. A failed mic and switch to a backup occurred!

Newest @FlyoverFooty in the books and extremely thankful I went live - not only for the great audience and chat… but a dead mic about 2/3 of the way through would’ve broken my spirit. Thankfully - the whole ep was good! And audio pod will be out in the AM! Talking #AllForCITY, @Bohfs_stl and @fanbuiltSTL!

For many in STL, it's spring break. Us and our families included here at Flyover... BUT, there's still @stlCITYsc to talk about (and other local soccer). So we record tonight to look at it all: LAFC, New England, US Open Cup and more... and if this post happens to get maybe a couple likes in the next 5 or 10 minutes... maybe we do it live! #AllForCITY

An interesting positional discussion is emerging for @stlCITYsc, and one that’s going under the radar… for now. Jaziel Orozco vs Mbacke. Mbacke’s been in training for weeks now, saw 45’ for CITY2 last week, yet hasn’t overtaken Orozco at RCB or even seen a single minute of action w/CITY, despite a presumption among many that he’s the presumed starter if/when available. Orozco may have started due to necessity in being one of a few CB who were fit, but he’s done nothing to lose the spot or cause doubt in his capability yet. Orozco is T-1 on the team in clearances, 4th in TKL, T-2 in INT, 2nd in pass completion %, 2nd in accurate long balls/90. Orozco’s doing enough to keep the job right now so it might boil down to whether Mbacke is doing enough in training to usurp him. So far, it’s not Mbacke’s job by default and we might need to start adjusting expectations for our backline accordingly. #AllForCITY

ICYMI this weekend - the group behind an initiative to bring a grassroots, supporter owned club to STL revealed their name/branding on #314Day and it’s pure 🔥🔥🔥. Forest Park Rangers FC look to start play in the @midwestpl in 2027. Get to know the identity 👇 and if you’re interested in getting involved, the link in their bio.

I’ve maintained these 1st 4 @stlCITYsc games were likely the most difficult 4 game stretch of our season. LAFC: 4-0 1st team to keep 4 straight clean sheets while wining 4, to open a season in MLS history. Seattle: 3-1 w/3 clean sheets & only a loss to the team they haven’t beaten away in 15 yrs. San Diego: 3-0-1 w/3 clean sheets kept & a +8GD Charlotte: 1-1-2. The only underperforming club of the bunch and the 1 pt CITY has taken. NER next week offers what I’d say is the closest level of competition to STL since Charlotte for where we realistically are and should expect 3 points from - especially at home. All this to say, there are issues with our roster that I detailed my thoughts on yesterday but the schedule’s done us no favors either beyond testing #AllForCITY against some of the very best early on… and asking patience of the fanbase, which is more of a bigger ask after the last few years.

Day After @stlCITYsc thoughts as I’m on a day long Spring Break road trip. Here are a few examples of where I think the focus has to be on improving the #AllForCITY attack: Striker and wingbacks & our midfield. - The 9: Becher isn’t working. The discussion isn’t whether he’s working though, it’s whether he’s shown (any) growth over these 4 games and is 4 games enough to make the judgement to get a different look up top. I think we’re there. Through 4 games Becher has 10 shots, 1 on target, 0.54xG and only 14 touches in the opp box. It’s been against tough competition but we’re not seeing growth or comfortability in the most important spaces. - Wingbacks: Positionally on field, they’re getting where they need to be: high up the field, in wide areas and able delivering shot creating action opportunities… but the quality is lacking from both Santos and Wallem. Crossing is abysmal and their issues lead directly to our attacking mids/striker struggling. Whether the fix is moving to a more inverted look, finding alternatives who have better crossing or are able to connect better… it’s a significant issue to our attacking mids right now. - Central midfield: Somewhat surprisingly, Chris Durkin is more or less excelling in a traditional box to box mid role. Hes defending when he needs to, he’s pushing high and effective in his connections in the attacking half, and he’s still his usual aggressive self. Meanwhile Edelman is clearly more comfortable in the 6/destroyer role and not taking that next step in quality higher up the field. This combo can be fine if they lean into it but so far we’re still seeing the double pivot/dual 6 so it’s dragging them both down from possible ceilings (while the possible return of Edu Löwen looms). At this point, I think it’s Durkin who’ll keep his starting spot.
