Excellent piece of work that answers many questions, but poses so many more! Are there flyways, shared among species, within Africa that reflect the better-known flyways of longer-distance migratory species?

Not sure how much this applies to conservation: some researchers are good at popularizing their research. What we need is to present research findings in a form that is accessible and useful to decision-makers to influence conservation outcomes. Everyone has a role here.

'What we today need is greater mutual respect. The academic historian needs to engage more with the writer of popular history. One can begin by acknowledging that newer explorations can come from any quarter.' An important and interesting piece, which also applies to conservation - on the tussle between the academic and the popular theprint.in/opinion/why-is…

From some distance away, I hear the mesmerising, primeval-sounding ring from the call of a hornbill. The sun is setting, and I can barely see the pinks of the newly blossomed silk floss flowers. But the hornbill is there and I feel grateful. See if you can spot it!
