Earning with Integrity, Using Social Monetisation within the Bounds of Taqwā 1. Purify Your Intention (Niyyah) Before Profit: Begin with a sincere intention: to earn ḥalāl income, benefit people, and avoid harm. Monetisation itself is not forbidden, but it must never become the primary driver that corrupts truth. When intention is sound, it disciplines content, keeping it honest, beneficial, and purposeful. 2. Make Truthfulness (Ṣidq) Non-Negotiable: Never exaggerate, fabricate, or manipulate information for engagement. Avoid clickbait that misleads, false claims, staged “drama,” or spreading unverified news. The Prophet (ṣallāLlāhu 'alayhi wa sallam) emphasised truthfulness as a defining trait of the believer; monetisation must not compromise it. 3. Set Clear Ḥalāl Boundaries for Content: Avoid anything that violates Sharīʿah: indecency, mockery of religion, slander (ghībah/buhtān), promotion of ḥarām products or services, or content that fuels hatred and division. If revenue depends on crossing these limits, it is not blessed income. 4. Prioritise Benefit over Virality: Produce content that educates, uplifts, and guides, whether in dīn, ethics, community awareness, or permissible skills. A smaller, sincere audience with barakah is better than massive reach built on harm or frivolity. 5. Be Transparent in Earnings and Promotions: Disclose sponsored content clearly. Do not deceive followers into thinking paid promotions are personal recommendations. Only endorse products/services that are lawful, safe, and genuinely beneficial. 6. Guard Dignity ('Ird) and Modesty (Ḥayāʾ): Do not expose private life, family matters, or personal struggles for engagement. Maintain modest presentation in speech, dress, and conduct. Respect your own honour and the honour of others. 7. Avoid Exploitation and Harm: Do not use people’s pain, tragedies, or private moments as “content.” Seek consent before featuring others. Do not incite mobs, cancel culture, or public shaming. Remember that every post has consequences. 8. Manage Influence Responsibly: Recognise that followers may imitate you. Be careful with advice, especially in religion, verify before sharing, cite scholars, and avoid speaking beyond your knowledge. Influence is an amānah. 9. Allocate Earnings with Barakah in Mind: Purify income through zakāh (when due) and regular ṣadaqah. Support beneficial causes. Lawful earnings coupled with generosity attract barakah and protect the heart from greed. 10. Maintain Accountability and Spiritual Balance: Set limits on screen time and content output so that ṣalāh, Qur’ān, family, and personal growth are not neglected. Regularly audit your content: “Would I be pleased to meet Allāh with this?” Seek counsel from trusted scholars when in doubt. Practical Checklist 👇 Is it true and verified? Is it ḥalāl and respectful? Is it beneficial or at least harmless? Am I transparent about any financial interest? Would I stand by this before Allāh? Social monetisation can be a lawful means of provision when guided by taqwā. The believer does not chase engagement at the expense of integrity; rather, he seeks barakah over numbers, truth over trends, and accountability over applause. O Allāh, grant us ḥalāl provision, bless what You give us, and protect us from earning through falsehood or harm.
