Fasting rules are about moderation, not zero intake, and halftime already provides a natural opportunity. Unlike Ramadan, there’s no mid-game moment they're suddenly allowed to eat/drink. Ramadan is different - no food or water all day, so a break at sunset makes sense. What exactly would Christian/Catholic players need 9 minutes into a game, that they've been deprived of?
