Great to join in with Bayle residents marking VE Day together with a fab array of cakes, a visit from the mayor and good chats. So much work goes into organising these events for people to be able to get together - thank you.

I’ve read a lot of Tory-driven propaganda in the last few days about barristers undermining the cab rank rule by working just for individuals and not for the government. I’m afraid this is nonsense! ❌ You breach the cab rank rule if you turn down work you are offered, which you’re available for and able to do. ☑️ You DON’T BREACH the cab rank rule if you’re only ever offered work from one side because that’s the kind of work coming through the door at your chambers. ☑️ You also DON’T BREACH the cab rank rule if you are never offered government work because you aren’t on the approved list of Treasury Counsel, because you’ve never applied to be on it. 🤷‍♂️ So saying a barrister who only represents claimants in immigration cases is “undermining” the cab rank rule is just more legal illiteracy from those attacking lawyers for representing certain kinds of people. This undermines the rule of law and must stop.
