Difference is there are repercussions for those mistakes if they continue to happen. Managers lose their jobs. Players are dropped or replaced. Referees continue to make incorrect calls, directly impacting the outcome of games and roll up next week to do it all again.

Referees, like anyone, should not have to suffer threats or intimidation. But this hasn't just happened in a scottish oasis of calm and tranquility where refs have been supported and lauded. There has been a form of aggressive lobbying from the top of one football club ever since the Dougie McDonald incident, this set a tone and agenda that their fanbase carried relentlessly without counter or repercussion. The referee strike and why it happened has been erased from history. That should have been a watershed moment - it wasn't They continued as they started to see results from the pressure, and successive CEOs / chairman / managers of Celtic maintained the tone and pressure - explicit and implicit. And now here we are. Rangers have occasionally spoke up when they feel the need, but nothing as concerted and pernicious as Celtic's 15yr campaign. This statement tells a story much higher than Beaton got threats because of Wednesday night, but most don't want to tell it.

@Follow_Follow_ Completely agree no one comes out of it well. The mentality of the dressing room has been discussed at length recently. Do the actions of Tav over the last few wks not also shine a bit of a light? Surprised the Club by announcing he was leaving when he did & then acting as he has

That whole Tav goodbye (and the pretty clear timeline now presented) is genuinely sad. Nobody comes out of it well; it’s a dishonourable way for a long-term captain to go out and it says an awful lot - none of it good - about the dressing room and the manager. What a season.

Rangers: Defensive Disorganisation As an Analyst, working in football, I always try to tow-the-line of being respectful about professional players when covering them but I am also a Rangers fan. What I have watched in the last 4 games is utterly astonishing from Coaching Principles to Player Responsibility: > Man-Marking or Ball-Orientated Defending? > Analysed & Addressed? > Player Reactions & Responsibility? > Player Pride & Work-Rate? The lack of responsibility and people willing to actually do the basics like run & do hard yards for each other is actually disgusting to watch as a fan and unprofessional to watch as an analyst.

The problem with the (naive) calls for fair officiating this weekend is obvious: it’s too late. HMFC should be champions today. They may yet snatch a draw and a 🏆 but 65-70 times out of a hundred they’d lose in Glasgow and now a game that shouldn’t matter is all that does.

@Follow_Follow_ Many of them are compromised. Beaton. Dallas. Collum. Clancy. Walsh. We need to clear the decks while we have the chance.

If you needed a police escort to go to work and feared for the safety of your family you’d very likely never want to go through that again. It’s unfortunate Beaton (amongst others) is at the heart of the officiating issues but a compromised figure shouldn’t still be involved.

Clear and obvious? Definitive evidence? You might think the ball hit the hand, but can you be absolutely sure? A look at the potentially title-changing VAR penalty which give Celtic victory at Motherwell deep into stoppage time. 👇 bbc.co.uk/sport/football…

Scottish football should be the talk of the footballing world this morning for an incredible reason. And it is. But instead of being a wonderful story of a rare achievement it’s the darkest tale you can tell about a sport.

1983/84. This is only the second time in history that Rangers have lost four consecutive league matches. The last run stopped at five.

You can still get 3/5 at major bookmakers for a home win in Saturday’s league decider.

@Follow_Follow_ Their keeper must have made more saves tonight than Butland's made in the last 2 months. I know there's other issues, but going back to the 4-2 Hearts game, Butland's conceded 22 goals from 37 shots on target.

Four consecutive defeats. Four games that sum up everything negative about the players, manager, and club. And six league games in a row where we’ve conceded two or more goals. Tremendous.
