Unfortunately, it felt like either this or a role demotion for Mack Quite frankly, probably best for both parties if they’re to achieve the success they want to I do wish Malik success tho. I think he’s a fine player. Mistake was hitching the whole wagon to him. Asked too much
Jeff Goodman@GoodmanHoops

Georgetown junior Malik Mack will enter the transfer portal, source told @TheFieldOf68. The 6-2 guard averaged 13.6 points, 4.1 assists and 3 rebounds per game this past season. It was Mack's second season with the Hoyas after spending his freshman year at Harvard.

A worthwhile gamble if Cooley can get him reclassed and on board. Extra bonus if you can get it done before moving parts of portal start landing

Beckham Black is young (not eligible for 27 Draft even reclassed) but looks ready made for NCAA This Yr (mostly national schedule) - 16.4 ppg - 9.6 apg - 46/34/76 splits Played against HS #1 Prolific (with three 5* guards) last week and had 16 and 11 Highlights from that ⬇️

Maybe not the mutual success each party hoped for in the marriage but a big loss of a really good player who plays extremely hard Need a minimum of 4 guys at Kj/Vince level next year. Losing KJ makes threading that needle a bit harder Best of luck elsewhere to him
PortalUpdates@portal_updates

Georgetown junior KJ Lewis is entering the transfer portal, per @JoeTipton. The 6’4” guard appeared in 28 games, averaging 14.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. Lewis was named to All-Big East Third Team. Previously played two seasons at Arizona.

special team performance last night. Everybody pulled their weight. Good stuff from JWill, Mack, and Fort. Great stuff from Kayvaun And that’s what a developed Julius looks like once he adds the muscle. Total package on O and need to retain to see fruits of his development arc

@MarcusT02004152 @hoyatalk Yes English being graded on Cooley standards, and he’s not at that level of coach … but there’s not a world in which Georgetown thought they’d still be at this level of apathy 3 full years into this

@Footahh @hoyatalk Providence went from good to bad under English. Georgetown went from worst Power 5 program in the country to just regular bad. At least progress has been made, but clearly the next step needs to be taken for Georgetown, especially with the Big East being down right now

@MarcusT02004152 @hoyatalk I agree that the best way forward is supporting Cooley and putting resources behind future rosters But It’s also probably true though that a serious program would move on after three years without any success (Providence - for all their hooplah - is about to)

@Footahh @hoyatalk It took Fred Hoiberg 5 years to finally turn Nebraska around. Georgetown isn't landing a better coach than Cooley anytime soon so just hope he can finally turn it around in the next year or 2, Georgetown isn't exactly a coveted coaching job anymore

@hoyatalk Think that’s totally fair and is something Ed didn’t realize was this much of an obstacle in the job The only cure to that disinterest is winning though

@Footahh A lot of it is institutional disinterest. The next coach will face the same headwinds. Maybe more.

@hoyatalk aware there’s backroom stuff that’s improved but the merits of that r graded on wins and losses. Ed’s hired to correct the losing ways of coaches before, and thus should then be judged on W-L And if it’s just GU rot then let’s stop pretending we can be one of NCAA’s best again

The point guard is also 14-29 against high major teams in a Georgetown jersey. Not great!

Have talked a lot about how Vince this year and Sorber last year were one man medicines for the defense (and the team) But Cooley is now just 13-18 in HM games where he had one available it’s been bad

Better have your ducks in a row and a fully loaded wallet come the offseason Lot of looking in the mirror to do and tough decisions to make. This sucks and you’re running out of chances to ever get this right

@NationWideNolan I watched every game, and I can’t find an individual who would argue that. Believe me I’m not a fan of this roster, but every game has been close and you can’t blame coach for a lot of the on court stuff imo

There is zero reason for a year four at this rate beyond 'we owe him a lot of money'. not a one.

Georgetown 12-15 at the rim. 3-16 on all other shots (1-10 from 3) The KJ injury is just a dagger for any prospects of a heartwarming finish to the year but this game is winnable if your guards work to get your bigs interior looks

That effort the first 35 minutes didn’t deserve a win. Let a cooked team with a cooked coach come to your place and out tough and out compete you from the jump Can’t be a defensive first team that gives up 90+ to Butler

We saw some bad defenses the past two years but that may have been the worst defensive half we’ve gotten Butler 1.59 points per possession Scored on 25 of 34 possessions and only a single score came from a second chance. Piss poor resistance and connectivity
