🗣️ Lisandro Martínez: “No. Simply, no. In my opinion, Messi deserved it.
“When I look at this World Cup, I don’t just look at who played well. I look at who changed games, who carried the biggest responsibility, and who made the entire football world stop and watch. For me, that was Lionel Messi.
“He scored eight goals in this tournament. He created chances, provided assists, and produced moments that made fans and even players rise from their seats. At 39 years old, he was still deciding matches against the best teams and the youngest generation of footballers.
“He carried the dreams of an entire nation on his shoulders. Every time Argentina needed something special, Messi delivered. That’s what the best player in a tournament does.
“Rodri is a fantastic footballer, and I have a lot of respect for him. He’s one of the smartest midfielders in the game, and congratulations to him for winning the award. But if you’re asking for my opinion, I believe Messi’s impact on this World Cup was greater.
“For me, football isn’t only about controlling possession or making interceptions. It’s also about creating unforgettable moments, deciding the biggest matches, and inspiring millions of people. Messi did all of that.
“At 39 years old, he produced one of the greatest World Cups I’ve ever seen from an individual player. That’s why, if I had a vote, it would have gone to Lionel Messi without hesitation.
“People can disagree, and that’s part of football. But in my eyes, Messi was the player of this tournament. Awards don’t always change what everyone witnessed on the pitch.”
