Our thoughts are with Coach Tanner’s family, friends, former players, and the entire Citadel and Nova Scotia football communities as we remember a remarkable coach, mentor, and leader.

His influence can be seen in the countless players who continued on to coach, compete, and contribute to football in Nova Scotia, carrying forward the values he championed.

Beyond championships and accolades, he created an environment where athletes learned discipline, teamwork, and resilience - lessons that extended far beyond the field.

Coach Tanner’s philosophy was rooted in passion, consistency, and a genuine excitement for the sport. His ability to connect with players, develop their skills, and instill confidence made him a cornerstone of the football community.

His lifelong commitment to football shaped programs across Nova Scotia, but his impact was felt most profoundly through his leadership with QEH Lions/Citadel Phoenix, where he built one of the most successful and admired high school football programs in the province and country.

For 54 years, Coach Tanner dedicated himself to the game - teaching, mentoring, and inspiring generations of young athletes.
