Major reshuffle in Pakistan sports administration as Secretary IPC Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani has been given additional charge of Director General Pakistan Sports Board for three months or until the appointment of a regular incumbent. Yasir Pirzada, who had been serving as DG PSB on deputation, has been repatriated to the Federal Board of Revenue. Wani, who is already serving as IPC Secretary and also heads the Pakistan Hockey Federation, will now oversee PSB affairs as well, further strengthening his role in Pakistan’s sports administration.

Women's sports in the country desperately need structured leagues that help develop talent and build a solid ecosystem. Sadly unlikely to happen because many see women's sports as tick box exercise and others create so many hurdles. Pakistan lags so far behind in south asia in women's sports.

I feel women cricket in Pakistan currently needs a stronger and more structured domestic foundation more than a PSL style league. Instead of short-term franchise tournament, the focus should be on building a proper regional domestic system under a consistent calendar, where players regularly compete and develop their skills. Introducing three day cricket for women is equally important, as longer-format matches help improve temperament, technique and game awareness. There must be clear pathways through age group and grassroots cricket to identify and bring the new talent into the system. The priority should first be expanding the player pool and strengthening the base of women cricket. A league can only thrive once that foundation is firmly in place.

Pakistan women’s cricket cannot keep aiming for global competitiveness without a women’s PSL. Every major women’s team improved through a strong & dynamic domestic T20 league. Growth in regional and global comps will follow in due time.
