Happy #Diwali! The five-day festival celebrates "the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil" and honors Lakshmi, goddess of wealth and good fortune. This year, the festival begins Nov. 12.

Today is Patriot’s day. We honor and remember those that lost their lives in the 2001 terrorist attacks in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania. What will you do today to make the world a better place?

On June 19, 1865, Union Gen. Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston and announced the end of slavery, effectively emancipating the remaining enslaved individuals in Texas. This momentous event became known as Juneteenth, a combination of "June" and "nineteenth."
