On Tuesday, GOOD’s Councillor Sarah Mabotsa, the Tshwane MMC responsible for Economic Development and Spatial Planning, hosted more than 100 Early Childhood Development practitioners to discuss the waiving of development changes which the Tshwane Council recently approved.
Although the DA and FF+ opposed waiving these charges for ECD centres, GOOD with other coalition partners supported this initiative to improve education outcomes for young people in Tshwane’s townships. The waiving of costs will help more ECD centres to register and be able to access grants that support pre-school nutrition and healthcare programme.
GOOD education begins with early childhood development. Research has shown that ECD improves school readiness, academic achievement and lifelong well-being, particularly for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
