This is a warning currently being shared in Fujian Province, China, about a person suspected of abusing cats obtained through fraudulent adoption schemes. A man using the name “Zhongqing” (钟情) has reportedly been posing as someone looking to adopt kittens for free since around May and, as of July, is still seeking new adoption posts. Multiple witnesses have described a consistent pattern of behavior. He would send videos claiming the kittens had been fighting with other cats, along with images showing the kittens appearing to be close to death. He would later claim that they were “fine.” The following day, he would explain that the cat had “run away” or “jumped out of a window.” One witness also stated that he sent them a photo of a cat that was already dead and then immediately blocked them. There are also multiple witness accounts stating that he frequently attempted to adopt several cats at once, and that the same pattern of behavior has been observed repeatedly since May. Although his account is now private, before it was made private, his following list consisted almost entirely of accounts posting free cat adoption offers, which is consistent with the way he appears to have obtained the cats.
