A few years before that, a different US federal judge told a different lawyer that the lawyer was not allowed to use the phrase "opposite sex" in court because the judge found the phrase to be "complicated." It hasn't been like this in every case that's come up in the US, but it has been like this in nearly every one of them, including cases that are being presided over by conservative judges. "Gender cannot be questioned and cannot be defined. It is the black hole of legal theory" is brilliant.
