In homeschool, my parents taught me a song I thought they wrote: “Who were the witches? / Where did they come from? / Maybe your great-great-grandmother was one / Witches were wise, wise women they say / and there’s a little witch in every woman today.” Last week, I heard it elsewhere for the first time in my life while listening to a podcast by Zaid Ayers Dohrn, the son of domestic terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn. In the episode, he played a clip of himself and his classmates singing it at the “scruffy alternative preschool” his fugitive parents sent him to while underground and on the run from the FBI in New York. It probably shouldn’t surprise me. My parents were never directly involved in left-wing violence, but they moved in overlapping circles with Weathermen and others of a similar mind. And they were radicals. I grew up idolizing the Black Panthers, writing ecstatic poetry about Cesar Chavez, and sincerely believing the U.S. government assassinated Malcolm X. Today, I hold the values of principled conservatism very closely. I’ve come to see much of the left-wing project as rooted in utilitarian hedonism and fear-based social conformity, aimed at erecting theoretical scaffolding for moral anomie. It wasn’t ideology that changed me, but an abiding commitment to truth wherever it led, regardless of the political implications. Much of that transformation is thanks to Buckley, Scruton, and the Manhattan Institute. Which is why I’m thrilled that, beginning next week, I’ll be working at the Manhattan Institute full-time. I couldn’t imagine a better place to invest my energy. *P.S. For those supposed “right-wing accounts” with poor reading comprehension who mobbed this the first time (in prototypical leftist fashion), this post is stating that I was raised in a progressive environment and came to conservatism of my own accord.

Does anyone have the post from late last night where this woman brags about being hired by @ManhattanInst despite the fact she is a leftist and how her parents hung out with the weather underground? Predictably, she deleted it because it was insane. @Forest_Romm coward, btw.

As students struggle w/basic reading & math, UW-Madison’s “#1 education school” is teaching future educators: “anti-racist behaviors as well as social justice in educational practices” “raciolinguistic hierarchies across science, math, & environmental education” “how policies sustain white privilege” “Latinx Literacies”

lIf you do anything today, watch @MaeveHalligan at the Cambridge Union. I genuinely think this was the first time many people in that room were confronted with the hard reality of the trans debate, rather than the slogans that usually surround it. @BuckAngel was exceptional: calm, articulate, humane. Ultimate respect. And then there was Helen Webberley. I remember once thinking the criticism directed at her by GC women was excessive, especially the claim she was ‘pure evil’. After hearing her speak, I no longer think that. She is totally insincere. I can deal with hard ideologues- they believe they are telling the truth; they are genuine, @HelenWebberley is different. One audience member, a trans-identified male and former patient of hers, stood to speak during points of information. His account of how he had been treated was deeply disturbing. Watch the full debate. It is worth your time.

What happens when universities rebrand DEI offices? At UW-Madison, they host exhibits w/messages like “All White People Are Racist” One parent tells @CityJournal the display was a red flag, especially as presenters portrayed a more sanitized view of the school’s programs

@Forest_Romm Beautiful paragraph, but I’m glad it came to an end rather than growing into a book.

After reading +1500 dissertation abstracts by Mellon-funded academics, I can no longer tell the difference between a typo and a neologism. But I can be pretty confident the author will use their positionality as a queer racialized subject in a heteronormative Eurocentric world to advance an autoethnographic exploration of Self as an embodied site of survivance strategies that disrupt and subvert hegemonic narratives of alterity while looking toward Indigenous horizons of postcolonial sexuality, or whatever…
Colin Wright@SwipeWright

This new PhD dissertation from the University of Victoria’s School of Indigenous Governance contains two typos in the first sentence. The author uses her “intersecting lenses of being a chronically ill neurodivergent Two-Spirit Mississauga Nishnaabe Lucbanin artist and scholar” to convey the importance of “ancestral knowledge encodements” through beadwork. She claims “colonization” is why we think “body, mind, spirit, land, and material expressions of culture” are separate things. This is what happens when universities treat “Indigenous knowledges” as co-equal with science and view any criticism of these claims as forms of colonial oppression.

This is actually wrong: they will die of natural causes because Gavin Newsom imposed a moratorium on the death penalty and shuttered the state's death row *even after* Californians voted to retain capital punishment.
FischerKing@FischerKing64

It is comforting to know that the state of California is treating death row inmates (who will die of natural causes long before they’re executed thanks to endless appeals) just as well as the homeless population - which watches porn on the taxpayer dime in public libraries.

Obama's Office of Civil Rights in the Department of Education issued a letter in 2016 instructing schools to let any boy who claims to be a girl change with girls. The letter specifically declared that any concerns about privacy or comfort for the girls forced to change with these boys had no standing. A decade and three presidencies later, this guidance has been pulled and replaced by new guidance declaring that Title IX ensures the protection of female-only intimate spaces. Schools across Blue America are defying these mandates in order to continue forcing girls to change with any boy who says he is a girl, thereby risking billions in federal funding in the process. The Democratic party has declared that forbidding these girls from drawing a boundary between themselves and any boy who says he is a girl is the civil rights movement of the 21st century. The party intends to crush these girls and treat them as hateful oppressors who belong in the dustbin of history.

Gavin Newsom spent $189 million to give every state prison inmate a free iPad. Child predator Nathaniel Diaz allegedly used it to stalk, control, and exploit a minor on the outside. In the name of "digital equity," Newsom gave convicted pedophiles a new way to commit crimes.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation has issued a statement about our "porn for prisoners" story, claiming that the state-issued digital tablets are giving inmates access to "the Bible" and "education." This is gaslighting to the highest degree.
