It's my last day as librarian at Forge Valley School today. One final reminder from me that you don't need a single trend for maximum engagement. All you need is conviction and enthusiasm. We make them believe. We are the music makers; we are the dreamers of dreams. Peace x

It's all about the pledges we make to the young people around us. Statements of intent are perceived as promises and therefore we must always be clear about what we expect and what we can offer. This foundation empowers ambition💃

"What's the difference!?" I hear you shout. There's a HUGE difference. A set of broad rules within which pupils are occasionally 'let off' compromises clarity & consistency. A framework of expectations anticipating flux sends a clear message in a dynamic environment!

Culture Week at Forge Valley School! Pastries, stuffed vine leaves, cake! I can eat in the LRC thanks to the 'party time' clause of the behaviour policy. During certain special events, pupils are allowed to eat up here too! Not a loophole, just an accommodating policy! 💃

A virtuous cycle?

Thanks @Scholastic - all this bought with rewards from our book fair in December. At least 75% of this is a result of empowering disadvantaged pupils to choose their own books. Now we have more new & relevant books in our library. What's the opposite of a vicious cycle?

A lot of what I'd call 'powder pink' in publishing at the moment. Not complaining. Love it. Keep it up. Funny how colours trend though...

@ljwattsWales Haha surprisingly chill. I think they're all getting a bit tired tbh. I do stand by my point though. All the best stories are tied up to some extent with inevitability and are thus compelling 💃

@erindaydreams Yeh, I define "historical fiction" as anything that relies on historicity as a theme (explicit or implicit). A book can be set in the 15th century and still not be "historical fiction". History might not be mega relevant to the plot. Likewise a novel about Covid19 could qualify.

I'm not so sure I agree. As a K-5 librarian, I teach kids who are too young to remember 9/11. To them, books about that time are historical. Historical fiction is a great way to help them learn about what happened. I'm not sure we can give it an exact # of years? #mgbookchat
