A satisfying thing about life now is having time to get lost in an old book. This is one of my first, bought new for £9.95 in 1983 - quite an investment for a student. Many years later I met both Turner and Roebuck through work.

Another fun evening of slot rallying at Worthing club. My three cars were quick and stable but I wasn’t fast enough. The cows remained unmoved by it all.

Fine day for a drive to the diner. I wasn’t the only one who thought so.

I’m sure I could get one of them running. Maybe.

@PCz911 Through every era the modern cars are thought to be ugly, but I think you’re right about the current crop (past 10-15 years). It’s not helped by messy liveries.

Not least because I was on it. I was interviewed by Zig and Zag (two sock puppets operated by a couple of Irish chaps). No known video exists so you’ll have to take my word for it that my ad lib was good enough to make the socks break character and laugh.

Brian showed an alarming degree of interest in this Moggie which had an optimistic for sale sign in the rear window.

On World Book Day I’m reading a motor racing memoir giving a behind the scenes view of one of the most romanticised eras. It is well written, but the real joy is the candid photos which bring the races and drivers to life, melting away the half century between then and now.

Quiet afternoon in the warmth of the sitootery with a good book.

Unexpected bargains gratefully acquired.

MoT day for the MR2. It passed. So did the Carrera GT and LFA which were being done after it.

Am reminded that it is the 7th anniversary of the last proper Geneva Show.

Sat in the pub, can’t help overhearing a chap at the next table with his inside line on the ‘indescribable’ Hilux episodes on Top Gear. He’s talking utter bollocks but I’m resisting the temptation of introducing myself.

It’s a cycle of cause and effect: buy one old Le Mans slot car, read books about the real thing, buy more old Le Mans slot cars. Recent acquisitions of the Audi variety.
