I am shocked to hear of the passing of @LindseyGrahamSC. He was a strong supporter of the Abraham Accords and stood firmly against the Islamic regime’s aggression. May he rest in peace. 🙏🏻

Jill and I are shocked by the sudden passing of Lindsey Graham. Lindsey and I served together in Congress for over a decade, and worked closely on many issues throughout the years. We traveled the world together as members of the Senate Foreign Relations committee. We disagreed often, and sometimes loudly. Lindsey and I did agree on the profound importance of public service. Like me, he loved the Senate as an institution, even with all its flaws and complexities. To his family, his staff, his constituents in South Carolina, and everyone who loved him: Jill and I are keeping you in our prayers.

At 7:15 p.m. ET today, U.S. Central Command forces began launching the third round of strikes this week against Iran after Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces blatantly attacked M/V GFS Galaxy, a Cyprus-flagged container ship transiting the Strait of Hormuz. A civilian crew member is missing and the vessel is unable to continue the journey due to an onboard fire and significant engineroom damage. Iran was provided yet another opportunity to demonstrate adherence to the Memorandum of Understanding after being held accountable for earlier attacks on commercial vessels but has again failed. In response, the United States is imposing a heavy cost by continuing to degrade Iran’s ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial ships freely transiting the strait. The strikes are being carried out at the direction of the Commander in Chief.

The United States does not place countries in Country Group A:5 lightly. Entry into America’s most trusted export control tier is reserved for partners that have demonstrated decades of reliability, strong security cooperation, and responsible stewardship of advanced technologies. The UAE is now the first Arab nation to receive that designation. The United States enjoys a $23.8 billion trade surplus with the UAE, its fourth largest globally. The UAE is America’s largest trading partner and export destination in the Middle East and North Africa. In 2024, the UAE was designated a Major Defense Partner, a distinction held by only one other country at the time. Washington has entrusted the UAE with civilian nuclear cooperation, advanced defense systems, and now expanded access to critical technologies under the A:5 designation. These are decisions backed by strategic calculation, not symbolism. They reflect a partnership built over decades and a level of confidence that very few countries in the world have earned. 🇦🇪🤝🇺🇸

The UAE is now producing a record 4.1 million barrels of oil per day, reinforcing its position as one of the world’s leading energy producers. While some still choose accommodation when confronted by terrorist intimidation, the UAE continues to strengthen its energy resilience and strategic independence. As our Minister of Foreign Affairs ABZ made clear: “We will not be blackmailed by terrorists.” Neither should the world. Every additional barrel produced strengthens global energy security, reinforces market stability, and proves that intimidation will never dictate the region’s future. 🇦🇪
