I used the word "footgun" among engineers this week and found out that several people didn't know what it meant! A footgun is a feature designed in such a way as to be extremely likely to cause problems. It's a great word because it puts blame on the design, not on users.

Many people on my feed are expecting massive job losses from AI in the next few years. I am very skeptical. To be concrete: I doubt the US unemployment rate will exceed 18%, or that the LFPR will drop more than 5 percentage points below its current level, over the next 3 years.
