I have been offline awhile. Had some personal things come up and I am back and alive. Can I just say this? Curling not a sport.

President Trump is spiraling. He seems unhinged. Will Republicans in Congress ever do ANYHTING. European nations, including France, Germany, Norway, and Sweden, are deploying troops to Greenland to enhance the Arctic island's security.

Taking over Greenland without their approval is extreme, however those European nations cant even defend themselves let alone Greenland. Trump warned them to increase their military in his first term and everyone laughed. If the US hadn't helped them, Russia would have a major presence in Europe right now.

@FortWayneCPA We had a vegetable President for four years, while most people had their head up their a$$. Trump is fine, just frustrated. He has a lot of work to do and getting zero help from Congress. Relax and enjoy the Indiana win.

Those characterizations are opinion or political interpretation, not objective findings by a nonpartisan authority. Congress sucks, BOTH sides! Key context on the European nations: The deployments are relatively small in scale (reconnaissance units and short missions as part of “Operation Arctic Endurance”). They are coordinated under Danish leadership and NATO frameworks, not as unilateral European invasions

America is so polarized that depending on which videos people watch, they think the Minnesota ICE shooting of an unarmed person who was purposefully lightly obstructing ICE is entirely justified, not ever justified, or in between. Some of the videos honestly can push a reasonable person to one conclusion and some to a different conclusion. After looking at all of them I can find, and thinking about it for a couple of days I think: The Head of Homeland Security absolutely lied in her first Press Conference and should be replaced. I think the Vice President and President are making matters worse with over the top rhetoric. I think people who are spending their time "lightly obstructing" ICE are morons and putting themselves at risk. I think more of them need to be arrested and prosecuted. Not slapped on the risk, prosecuted. They are making matters worse. The woman who was shot clearly should not have driven away; she was given clear instructions to exit her car. By driving away she escalated the situation. I think ICE agents need a lot more training on policing because they do not seem to be adequately trained for their current mission. I think the ICE agent who killed the woman in Minnesota needs to be fired and charged with manslaughter at the minimum. ICE needs to reevaluate their tactics and stop going to war with large local police departments and President Trump and Kristi Noem are responsible for much of the rhetoric that is creating a problem. That is what I think.

Note to software venders in the accounting space. We are not interested in Beta testing your products; stop releasing them to early. We are generally not interested in you becoming an all in one provider; stick with what you are good at and perfect that first.

@FortWayneCPA Opinion only, not official. An employee receives $100 per weekend day worked in addition to regular and/or overtime compensation. Incentive pay to not call out on weekends. How classified?

Let the overtime deduction circus begin. Conversation my partner had with Paychex. Was escalated to a supervisor. Employees are paid time and a half, double, time AND triple time in 2025. Supervisor agrees that all overtime is properly coded in their payroll system by type. Supervisor agrees that the amount printed in Box 14 and coded as overtime premium is wrong and overstated on the 2025 W-2. Supervisor says: It will be correct in 2026 not 2025. They will NOT amend the W-2. We will provide a supplemental statement with the correct amount. This was grudging; however, agreed to. It is not a big deal because the IRS requires the employees to check it. (Note this is TOTALLY WRONG, the IRS specifically says employees can rely on the W-2 if the overtime premium is listed in box 14 for 2025 OR if they are provided a supplemental statement from their employer for 2025). Let the circus continue. Many people will overstate their overtime on their 2025 1040. Hundreds of thousands at least, more likely millions. It is not helping that Congress and The President are telling everyone overtime is deductible without explaining the actual rules... Good grief.

We ask new clients to tell us why they are looking for a new client in the online onboarding form. Today: "Our last accountant emailed us tax documents belonging to another person ..." Yep, that is a problem.
