Market Insight: The Federal Reserve held interest rates steady in March, with the dot plot indicating two rate cuts in 2025. It also confirmed a modulation in the pace of quantitative tightening (QT) starting in April, rather than a complete pause, which is slightly ahead of the market’s prior expectation of a slowdown beginning in May. Market repricing mechanisms are shifting from betting on the timing of rate cuts to a recalibration of the liquidity environment. The QT adjustment could provide marginal short-term liquidity improvement, potentially driving a repricing of risk assets. However, the medium-term trajectory will still hinge on macroeconomic indicators and monetary policy guidance. Overall, the policy trajectory aligns with market expectations. Near-term market turbulence may be driven by Powell's communication strategy during the press conference, particularly regarding his stance on inflation persistence and labor market resilience.
