Avatar Yangchen turned the sacred Northern Air Temple into a secret prison, keeping combustionbenders in sensory deprivation torture for years. She forced pacifist monks to act as jailers, prioritizing global security over her own culture's sanctity. This eventually led to her banishment from the Northern Air Temple. While Yangchen was a Saint to the world, she understood that a world without war required a leader willing to get their hands dirty, proving that the greatest act of service is being the monster so no one else has to be.
