We, the people of South Africa. If you knew our history, particularly racial segregation and discrimination, you wouldn’t post this. The first sentence made it quite clear that by all who live in it, means South African people of all races. Race was the gist of the matter. It doesn’t say all who live in it, including documented or undocumented immigrants. The only people mentioned in the preamble are the people of South Africa. If you see any other particular set of people, please show us.

I wrote this article on the xenophobia lie last May and have been pushing this message for years. Why? Because in the colonists's imagination the land and its resources must never be returned. Because those who inherited stolen ownership intend to keep what was never theirs. Because African wealth must, according to the masters and their butlers, continue flowing outward to the United States, Britain and the wider Anglosphere, whose prosperity has always depended upon the extraction, impoverishment and containment of the African world. This week I am elsewhere on the African continent working with universities on the future of teaching, research & academic publishing in the era of AI. Universities have spent decades asking students to remember information. Useless exercise! Now we have AI & it remembers almost everything. Now university academics can no longer ask: “What do students know?” They must ask: “What can students do with what they know that AI cannot?” That single question may reshape how we teach, assess, research & publish over the next decade. I’d be interested to hear how others think universities should respond.
