In 1974 I had my first article published in Saltley News; written while I was still at school. Now a book for the university and teaching sector (and others). A definite tick on the bucket list

British Muslims are portrayed as a monolithic voting bloc concerned only about foreign policy issues. The reality is they are disproportionately working-class and fed up, like everyone else, about the decline they see around them. Our latest Guardian film is out now.

This exchange is the entire conflict in two minutes - An Israeli woman worries about her son and his dog in a safe room during Hamas rocket attacks. Randa Abdelfattah responds that Gazans have no safe rooms, no escape from Israel's 14-year blockade, and no protection from US-funded Israeli weapons

My favourite British Value is our religious freedom: freedom to be religious (including as a Muslim), to move from one religious belief system to another and freedom to not have religious beliefs.
The Bridge Initiative@bridgeinit

Creating a culture of suspicion and exclusion towards people of other faiths is neither British nor Christian, argues @davidandrewt. He believes Christians should be the first to defend the right of Muslims to gather and pray peacefully. premierchristianity.com/opinion/why-ch…

This is a great piece. Thank you @FraserNelson for this thoughtful and nuanced contribution. An iftar event open to all communities in the spirit of sharing has been weaponised as part of the ‘ongoing culture wars’ where Muslims are vilified if they engage publicly and vilified for not engaging enough. Minorities who have experienced marginalisation and persecution understand where such vilification leads and it is heartening to see solidarity across faiths as well as from people who appreciate the importance of defending pluralism regardless of background.
Fraser Nelson@FraserNelson

The row over the Trafalgar Square iftar has seen Jews and Christians coming to the defence of Muslims. My thoughts on a fascinating and important trend:- comment.press/iftar

Dawn Butler, "The comments were Islamophobic, and banning prayer in public places is not Christian" "Attacking Muslims is not Christian" BBC Politics London, "Is the separation of men and women not an issue?" Dawn Butler, "It's the same in Hinduism, (some forms of) Christianity, Judaism - religions practice it differently" "That's not the point, the point is when you talk about values, British values, what are they?" "My British values is not tolerance, is acceptance"" "I'm accepting of other religions, other people's way of life, of who other people love, of different colours and religions" "Not tolerate, because i don't need to tolerate other people and their religions" "And for a member of parliament, Nick Timothy, to say what he said publicly. And for the leader of the opposition Kemi Badenoch to double down on that, I think brings our politics into disrepute"

This is the most brilliant breakdown of Israel's true motives you will ever hear: Trita Parsi explains that Israel doesn't want peace or regime change, it demands absolute regional domination. "For Israel to have total security, everyone else has to have total insecurity."

There was a time when Muslims lived in inner Birmingham and the wider area was seen as an out-of-reach white space. Slowly the community has moved into middle class areas of Solihull and Sutton Coldfield where the existing communities have responded in a mixed way.
