I cannot believe my Mom found this memo while cleaning their house. I also can’t believe she was cleaning the house! Love you, Mom. This is really where it all started. If I describe the fun, the energy, the camaraderie, the tension, the mistakes I made, the accomplishments I achieved - impossible to put it all together. I owe Gregg Henson & the late Jamie Samuelsen (then Sports Director, eventually morning show partner for 6 years) simply everything. Starting salary at age 26, living by myself in Madison Heights, MI? $27,500. Every single dollar mattered. And I felt like the richest man in the world for getting this job. They had to fight extra hard for me given I didn’t have a work visa. It lasted 9 1/2 years & I wish it had lasted forever. Two notes - 1) That Sunday Sit-In was Lions/Ravens and the last-ever game for Barry Sanders in the NFL. 2) 4 months later I’m in Anaheim, CA, covering a 1st round Wings/Ducks series. I can barely believe it today - tons of incredible sports travel later. It’s close to the biggest reason I’ve been on this journey for close to 30 years now. Never give up. Don’t be deterred. I’ve lived a dream career. It has not come easily. But it’s a testament to being relentless. #wdfn #detroit
