This is so cute❤️. The moment Odion Ighalo’s mum reminded him how she left Ajegunle to buy him a pair of football boots in Badagry.

The African tech ecosystem will have more billion-dollar exits in the next 5 years than it had billion-dollar rounds in the last 5 years. Bet on Africa.

We're living in the BEST era for doing research. 💪 After I graduated from my PhD, the rise of AI-native research gave me a new chance to revisit my research experience. Lately, doing research feels incredibly rewarding to me. I get to experience the pure joy of curiosity-driven science because I no longer have to worry about the lower-level implementations or getting bogged down by infrastructure 🚀 (I'll be sharing some of my own recent research driven by this very soon!) But today, let me introduce the New Orchestra 🎻. We wanted to ship a product that absorbs the friction and brings science back to the curiosity.

Y'all remember the nurses featured in the viral video calling on the Enugu State Government to intervene in the condition of Uwani General Hospital, Enugu, has cried out, alleging that they have been susp£nded by the hospital management. This follows a query issued by the Enugu State Government to the hospital over the situation highlighted in the video. Meanwhile, reports indicate that the hospital has since addressed and fixed the issues raised as of yesterday. However, the affected nurses say they have been instructed not to resume duty for the time being and the school gave them indefinite suspension.

“This is Uwani General Hospital in Enugu. There is no light here to attend to patients, and we are the nurses on night duty, even water we don't have.” — Nurses in Enugu raise alarm, calling on the attention of the Enugu State Government.

My name is Oluwatosin Olaseinde, in 2023 I applied for over 100 opportunities and we only got 6 of them. This totaled grant of $125,000 and multiple fellowships. From an arithmetic perspective, only 5% of the things we shot at came back to us. This is your sign to not give up. Keep applying, keep showing up, and keep pushing forward until you hit your goals. It’s a numbers game.

at 10 y/o i thought about life in 3 phases. > 0-30 >30-60 >60-90 i felt like i was born in the right country at the wrong time so i knew i had to get out. at 15 i flunked school, instead i just watched movies/series full time(how i got my video accent heyo!) . this led me to repeat my high school level (SS2). no worries i told myself, i still have 15 years in phase 1. i came out of school and chat it wasn't looking good. people just defaulted to going to uni no matter what. to me this was absurd and kinda insane. instead, i spent the next 3 years faffing about. trying everything that sparked my curiously. yes i was supposed to go to uni but for those 3 years I'd go to the uni entrance exams and i wrote nothing (sorry not sorry mum). this afforded me time to really experiment with everything from coding (hello Java se!) to fully blogging for myself and others, hosting a radio show, attending events and hackathons etc s/o to @tpcast @MobilityNigeria eventually i went to uni at 19 for computer science - the dream i thought! that didn't last long however as i soon discovered. the curriculum was YEARS behind (FORTRAN? ayfkm?) so after one class, i never went back to uni even though my house, fees everything was paid for. (s/o @allenakinkunle) I'd jump from event to event, sleeping on couches of people kind to let me sleep on them (s/o @seunonigbinde @uncletomiwa etc). i figured I'd keep doing this as i was making good money and to me i still had about 11 years in phase 1 anyways. i got to meet so many cool people thriving in the nascent Nigerian tech space at the time @spacelyn @Fowe @JasonNjoku @bosuntijani @asemota etc my mum would finally be fed up of me seemingly tensing up whenever she brought up education. asked what i wanted to do and i said that I'm already doing it. not good enough for my mum, a doctor, so try again she said. as i joke, i suggest schooling abroad. chat, she wasn't laughing. go find out she said. i find a Malaysian uni, pay application fee and then waited. i get a reply two weeks later. things are moving fast. they ask for 1 year payment as part of visa application. mum doesn't have the money. she puts house as collateral for the bank and she gets it. we pay and then apply. school approves but Malaysia immigration denies. it takes another full year but i finally get approved to travel. all money spent for fees, none left for flights. huge thanks to everyone who contributed to me and i fly to Msia it took 11 years from my first plans but i leave at 21, 9 years left for phase 1 > be me > come to msia with high hopes about education > excel in first year but depressed af > new country where I'm black now?, no money etc etc > start YouTube channel 1 year later @geekceptiontech > 8 years left in phase 1, might as well go hard, so i do > go from complete unknown to second most subscribed tech channel in Msia at one point > eat bread for 5 years nonstop to keep my channel alive > finish 3 year degree in ~6 years as i had to slow down due to no more money from home + had to survive on scraps > dedicate all waking and sleeping moments to publishing as much as i can all the grind got to me though. I'd say i started creating from about 16. no breaks, or rest across 2 continents. i burn out fast forward to now. i took a break for 3 years, got a job, several jobs, and I'm back to creating. > be me > already accomplish everything i set out to do from phase 1 > now currently 5 years into phase 2 > 25 years to look forward to where i get to create and explore in this phase > getting to fulfill glorious purpose everyday all these thoughts though started from when i was 10 in my younger years i felt like i was trapped in an unskippable cut scene. i had all the ideas but none of the freedom or abilities initially now, i get to appreciate that life happens in the in-between. just gotta contionusly present maxxxxx and keep creating tq for reading. I'm rooting for you fam!

I see the “everybody is winging it” narrative picking up again and…it’s a comfort statement that’s simply not true. There are people who know exactly what they’re doing. They just look detached from the outcome because they have total trust in their execution.

Now that the interest & enthusiasm for tech careers in Nigeria is increasing, it is important to highlight that you don't have to make software development your only option (especially if its not working 4u). Networking, Sys-Admin, Tech-Support,..., all remains good career paths
