I had two tickets to the @Arlington_GP race. My dad was supposed to go with me, but he passed away suddenly a week before the race. Everyone told me to sell the tickets. I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.
So I went to the track.I stood outside holding a sign: “Free ticket. Must sit with me and tell me dad jokes.” People thought I was crazy.
Then an older man approached. He looked like my dad, mustache, cowboy shirt, hat and kind eyes.
“I don’t have a ticket,” he said. “I just came to listen to the cars. My son used to love racing. He died in a car wreck last year.” I handed him the ticket. “You’re sitting in seat 101,” I said.
We sat together. We told bad jokes. We cried a little. For four hours, I had a dad and he had a son. Best race of my life!
